Tower 2, on the former Advertiser site at 121 King William Street Adelaide, achieved Practical Completion on Friday 15 February 2008.
To be known as Ernst & Young Building, it is amongst the most advanced buildings in Australia, capturing best practice from around the world and fully integrating Green Building principles into the design to achieve 5 Star Green Star Rating for both design and construction.
The building provides 12,378m² of net lettable space, as well as two levels of basement car parking. Situated on the southwestern corner of King William and Waymouth Streets, Tower 2 will be the gateway to the City Central Precinct which Aspen is in the process of transforming into a prestige commercial, retail, entertainment and possible hotel and residential accommodation precinct.
In its historic urban context of the GPO and Adelaide City Council chambers, Tower 2 is a new iconic addition to for Adelaide's skyline – an architectural expression of Adelaide's new dynamic business environment…flexible, modern and sustainable.
International Architects, Woods Bagot's stunning architecture has borrowed design cues for pattern, solid and void from neighbouring buildings to achieve a crisply detailed elegant building, contemporary in nature and sensitive to both the historic urban environment and the adjacent Tower 1. More than just a building, Tower 2 forms part of a new work and lifestyle precinct as the backdrop to landscaped plazas, interconnecting walkways and an exciting mix of retail shopping, restaurants and casual eateries.
Ernst & Young secured naming rights for the building after earlier pre-committing to lease approximately 3,333m² on the top three levels. They have already moved in and are open for business in their new location.
Three other 'blue chip' organisations have now taken up almost half of the remaining space, including the ground floor and negotiations are underway to take out the balance.
